It's difficult to say because it depends on the conditions - how many fresh vegetables and fruits does he get, if the air in the house is dry or wet, if it's in summer of winter. My adult degus drink around 10 ml per day. Babies drink less.
But if your degu drinks a lot of water (around 1 dcl per day), it could be caused by diabetes (or by dripping water bottle :-)
