Cataract
Sometimes grey spot in degu's eye could appear. This can be cataract and can have couple reasons. Most often cataract is in connection with diabetes - also diabetic people often get cataracts.

picture of cataract Another reason could be some genetic imperfection. All degus in our homes are offspring of couple degus brought from Chile, this means that in the past there was very often breeding of relatives which caused weakening of some of their children. This imperfection isn't that common today, fortunately. If cataract appears, don't let this degu to have babies, because there would be a big chance those babies could have catact too.

With degus, it's possible to cure cataract partly by low-caloric feeding - by high percentage of grasses (hay), some pellets and wood for nibbling. With people, cataract si cured by a surgery, when grey dimmed eye crystallin lens is replaced for new artificial crystallin lense, but such a surgery haven't ever been made with animals.

Don't worry if cataract wouldn't go away, degu living in known environment can live the same life as normal. In nature he wouldn't be able to find enough food and would be easy captured by predators, but you give him enough food and there are no predators in your home, so you degu will be satisfied.
